About Allevo

Allevo™ is a superior AFO (ankle foot orthosis), designed to assist in the treatment of orthopedic conditions. For patients large and small, Allevo’s patent pending Foot Lift Technology raises the user’s foot and ankle to hover just above the insole of the boot, while walking or standing. This reduces cumulative pressure to allow healing for a wide range of orthopedic conditions.

Outer sleeve conforms around leg and anchors the pivot arm to elevate the foot and reduce pressure
Customize the articulation of the pivot arm to improve balance, ambulation, and dorsi/plantarflexion
Adjustable stance can be set at normal, dorsi-flexed, or plantar-flexed positions
Adjustable length of pivot arm* can be raised or lowered over the duration of treatment
Transition to Remission allows providers to gradually reintroduce pressure and shearing forces as the recovery process continues

Nicolle Samuels

MSPT, CLT-LANA, CWS, CKTP, MLD/CDT Instructor, DWC

Nicolle has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Recreation Therapy and Master of Science Degree in Physical Therapy from the University of South Dakota with academic honors.
She has specialized in wound management and integumentary impairments including lymphedema and swelling disorders. In addition to certifications from the Lymphedema Association of North America and the American Academy of Wound Management, Nicolle is also a Certified Kinesio-taping Practitioner through the Kinesio-taping Association. Nicolle has collaborated with the Federation of State Boards and the American Physical Therapy Association regarding clinical competency and examination development, serving on several committees and councils.
Awarded Emerging Leader Award from the American Physical Therapy Association and was the South Dakota Physical Therapy Association 2012 Physical Therapist of the Year.
Most recently, Nicolle is developing innovative products to address patient and healthcare clinical issues. She is currently the Director of Rehabilitation, Cardiac Rehab, and Wellness Services at Hegg Health Center in Rock Valley, IA.

Dr. David Armstrong

DPM, MD, PhD; Podiatrist

An internationally recognized leader in the field of podiatric surgery, diabetic foot, limb preservation, tissue repair and wound healing. Dr. Armstrong is founder and co-director of the Southwestern Academic Limb Salvage Alliance (SALSA), a clinical and research collaborative.
As director of USC’s Center to Stream Healthcare in Place (C2SHIP), he is advancing the latest research in consumer wearables and other health technologies. In 2021, he received a USC Stevens Technology Commercialization Award for his method for treating chronic diabetic foot ulcers, just one of multiple patents he holds.
Dr. Armstrong is coeditor of the American Diabetes Association textbook, Clinical Care of the Diabetic Foot, now in its third edition. He is responsible for more than 100 books or book chapters, along with 600 peer-reviewed research papers in leading medical journals.
His achievements have garnered multiple honors, including the 2010 American Diabetes Association’s Roger E. Pecoraro Award for Lifetime Achievement in Diabetic Foot Care, the highest honor in the field.
Dr. Armstrong is founding president of the American Limb Preservation Society (ALPS), which is bringing together clinicians to help eliminate preventable amputations in the United States and worldwide. He and his Keck Medicine of USC team are working to achieve that goal for people with diabetes over the next generation.

Dr. Bijan Najafi

PhD, MSc

Professor, Director of Clinical Research, Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy, Baylor College of Medicine
Dr Najafi is currently serving with the Baylor College of Medicine, Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery as a tenured professor and Director of Clinical Research in the Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy. He has over two decades of experience in designing bio-inspired sensors for objective evaluation of healthy state of patients with locomotor dysfunctions, over 200 scientific publications in peer reviewed journals or conference proceeding with more than 6300 citations, 15+ pending or issued patents, and have been PI or a key investigator on over 50 industrial, national and international grants ($50M+). He has worked with a wide network of clinical and bioengineering collaborators across the globe primarily in the clinical areas of falls, frailty, gait, cognitive impairment, and diabetes and diabetic foot ulcers.
His research goal is to better understand how people move through their environment. In this way, he believes we may be able to fundamentally change the way we objectively measure quality of life for people across disciplines. He has assisted in successful translation of several innovative technologies for commercialization in the area of remote health monitoring, precision medicine, and movement assessment including several wearable and mHealth technologies for activities monitoring, gait analysis, balance assessment, automatic fall detection, patient adherence, surgical skills/ergonomics, and various technologies for foot problems management including prevention of diabetic foot ulcers. Thanks to his contribution in translations of innovation from engineering to various clinical applications, he has been awarded as one of the most Influential Health and Medical Leaders in the category of achievement in medical devices by Tucson Local Media.
Dr. Najafi has mentored over 400 postdoctoral, research fellows/interns, graduate, undergraduate, premed, and medical students - several of them received prestigious awards from their achievements while working in his team. He also serves as editor, associate editor, and guest editor for several scientific journals including as a section editor for Gerontology, ‘Regenerative and Technological Section’ and Journal of Diabetes Science and Technology.
